Evolutionary Science
"Supporting
strong science education in Tennessee"
GENES is a grassroots organization committed to
ensuring evolution science continues to be taught in Blount County Schools
and opposing the teaching of creationism or intelligent design in science
classes.
Our membership consists of teachers, scientists,
university professors, parents, and other citizens who are concerned about
impediments to quality science education in Tennessee public schools.
Mission:
Promote
excellence in science education in Tennessee and increase public
understanding of science.
Objectives:

Be a resource for teachers, students, and schools.
·
Ensure that Tennessee’s public school
curriculum, textbooks, and statewide tests represent the state of the art in
science education.
·
Increase public awareness and understanding of science.
·
Serve as an advocate and resource for educators, students, parents,
public officials, and news media on issues related to science education.
·
Oppose all efforts preventing public school science teachers from
teaching essential principles of science.
